THE BEST WAYS TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS – IT’S EASIER THAN YOU THINK

Best Ways To Use Essential Oils

So, you’ve heard about the benefits of using essential oils, but not quite sure how to start?   No worries, I’ve got you covered.  Right here, right now you’re going to learn the top three best ways to use essential oils.

Before we get into the good stuff, please note:

THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL ESSENTIAL OIL BRANDS.  THIS ONLY APPLIES TO PURE AROMATHERAPY GRADE OR THERAPEUTIC GRADE ESSENTIAL OILS

HOW TO APPLY ESSENTIAL OILS

AROMATICALLY You can rub 1-2 drops on the palms and inhale or use a diffuser to disperse essential oil particles into the air.  Using a diffuser is a great option if you are looking to scent the space around you.

The benefits of using essential oils aromatically are:

  • In addition to smelling amazing, these powerful oils can help balance out difficult emotional and mental states. And this gives them the ability to affect your mood.
  • These powerful little oils can cleanse the air by killing harmful bacteria and destroying viruses.
  • Some oils like eucalyptus are very beneficial to the lungs and can open your airways. This makes them great for respiratory support.

INTERNALLY (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR MOST BRANDS)  You can place 1 to 2 drops under the tongue, mix in a glass of water and drink, or you can place 1 to 2 drops in an empty capsule and swallow like any other pill.

High-quality brands may be GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA 21CFR182.20 to be used in cooking, adding a drop to purified water, or taken as a dietary supplement by diluting 1 drop in 4 oz of water, or in 1tsp of honey.

Pro Tip: I often place a drop or two of peppermint oil under my tongue and swish with water as a quick and easy breath freshener.

The benefits of using essential oils internally are:

  • Many essential oils are antibacterial and antifungal you kill a ton of harmful bacteria that are found in the mouth and throat.
  • Many essential oils like peppermint and ginger are great for nausea, are naturally soothing to the stomach, and support digestive health.
  • Just the immunity boost you get when applying essential oils topically you get that same boost when you take essential oils internally. But this time they don’t have to wait for them to get inside the body.

TOPICALLY Can be applied directly to the skin or diluted with a carrier oil such as olive oil, jojoba oil, or fractionated coconut oil.  Apply a couple of drops of essential oil, or diluted essential oil directly on the skin and rub into the skin.

The benefits of using essential oils topically are:

  • Oils are quickly absorbed into the body and bloodstream through the skin
  • Because oils are absorbed into the bloodstream the oils will benefit the entire body.
  • Many essential oils are antibacterial and antifungal so you get a boost in the immune support department.
  • You can feel the properties of essential oils immediately because many are soothing, cooling, or stimulating.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO APPLY ESSENTIAL OILS NEAT?

Applying essential oils neat is one way to apply essential oils topically.  However, instead of diluting the essential oil with a carrier oil, you would apply it directly on to the skin.  For some people that’s ok.  But for others, it may cause an unpleasant reaction.

So, as a word of caution: always test your skin first because those with sensitive skin may experience a negative reaction.  Some common essential oils you can apply neat in small amounts are lavender and peppermint.

WHERE TO APPLY ESSENTIAL OILS

You can apply essential oils where ever you want or need to.  But to get you started, here are the top places to drop those oils.

  1. Bottom of the Feet
  2. Back of the Neck
  3. Behind Ears
  4. Along the spine and/or parallel to the spine
  5. Under the tongue
  6. Temples
  7. Across the forehead
  8. Over the organs or glands being treated

So, there you have it.  The three best ways to use essential oils are aromatically, topically, and internally.
